Ancient Mediterranean Studies at UCSB

Ancient Mediterranean Studies (AMS) is an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Emphasis program that offers graduate students the opportunity to bridge the traditional disciplinary borders of fields constituting this area of Study. AMS embraces scholars from the departments of Anthropology, the History of Art & Architecture, Classics, History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. Our focus is the circum-Mediterranean world from roughly the Bronze Age to the early Middle Ages.
Through AMS, any student already resident in the Ph.D. program of one of the participating departments
can incorporate into their program of study the extensive course offerings and the broad range of faculty in this area, and engage in a lively dialogue with students across diverse disciplines.
